New Chanel No.5 Ad with Audrey Tautou

Monday, 06 April 2009

Following the footsteps of Nicole Kidman, actress Audrey Tautou will step into the starring role of a Jean-Pierre Jeunet-directed commercial for Chanel No. 5

The theme is missed encounters between strangers — played by Tautou and model Travis Davenport — as they ride the Orient Express from Paris to Istanbul.

There is no dialogue, only the vivid color imagery Jeunet is known for: as Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” plays, he lingers outside her train cabin, and later, in Istanbul, she misses the riverboat he is on, only to photograph him on deck from another ship later.

Finally, they meet, embracing atop a mosaic of Chanel’s double-C logo.

A teaser will debut in late April on chaneln5.com, around the same time Audrey’s film Coco Chanel Avant premieres in France, although Chanel executives insist the timing is just a coincidence.

The full film launches on the internet May 5, and will air on TV in shorter versions, followed by an print ad shot by Dominique Isserman.

Audrey Tautou as Coco Chanel

Monday, 23 March 2009

Fashion is definitely experiencing a media burst. From television to the Internet (present!) to the silver screen, fashion is at everyone’s fingertips and eyeballs. And with the release of Coco Avant Chanel, we will learn about the early years of one of fashion’s female greats.

As the synopsis goes: “In an orphanage, silently standing next to a perfectly made bed, is a frail and slender ten year old girl with thick black hair. Gabrielle Chanel, known as Coco, and her many lives. The story of the path taken by Coco from her obscure beginnings to the blinding lights of Paris.” I’ve seen a Chanel film from the ’80s and recently saw a play so I’m excited to add this to my Chanel viewing repertoire. Oh, and jazzed to see Fabcon Audrey Tautou as Coco of course.

Salt, To Cleanse The Soul

Tuesday, 17 March 2009

I came across the amazing work of Motoi Yamamoto! Why is it amazing, it is because Yamamoto uses salt to create large, insanely detailed, floor patterns. Pick up Theme (issue 18) to see way better photos of his work, and to read how he relates his work to keeping a diary. It’s amazingly detailed.

The ever alluring actress and fashion chameleon darling Tilda Swinton models some innovative dresses from young fashion designers in the Spring/Summer 2009 issue of AnOther Magazine. The designers of the dresses pictured among others include Craig Lawrence and Mark Fast . AnOther’s website currently shows Tilda wearing dresses from several young designers. AnOther also threw a party in Tilda’s honor.

Bjork Unravel

Monday, 09 March 2009

I stumbled upon this really beautiful video art made by Lynn Fox for Bjork’s song Unravel. This video art was shown during Bjork’s world tour previously. A very interesting concept taken from the process of creation of Adam and Eve. Lynn Fox also did video clips for some of Bjork’s song such as Oceania and also other artist such as Maximo Park. Below are some screen captures from the video art itself.
