Day 1..

I pretty much knew that when Shannon from Insight told us to be at the head
office to leave at 8.30am she was dreaming. I have been doing these Insight
trips for a couple of years now so I know how these shoots work. So when I
heard 8.30am kick off I went ok this thing will leave around 1pm. So after
organising 30 people including skaters, surfers, camera men, chicks and one
bus driver we slowly headed out of Sydney. I might ad really slowly. Top
speed of this bad boy bus is 60km. The schedule also said that we would be
at foster just after lunch. We rolled into Newcastle just on dark. That’s
only 2 hours north of Syd. Awesome…… I might ad, as well we had to make a
quick couple of stops on the way. One to get ice cause we had a bunch of
cases on board, another to get what was an important document stating that
the bus was road legal. It looked far from it but with the boys working on
it 24/7 for the last couple of weeks it got the green light. I’m also pretty
sure that I saw a large package change hands during the process………..
So we made the through the first day, a lil slower than expected but the bus
was putting along smoothly, the ambience was phenomenal and the crew were
just as excited as one another. I have seen this coast a million times
before but I knew that I would be seeing it for the first time again being
in this bus. I’m excited.

Right when I left Bali heading to Sydney, I really had a small idea how this
is gonna go down. I knew that we gonna ride in this decked out double decker
bus from Sydney to Byron Bay, do few stops on the way so the boys could do
some surfs and skates on these unfamiliar towns in East Australia coast, and
at the end of the trip we gonna be sitting in the bus and rocking Splendour
in the Grass to see MGMT and Bloc Party live.. Then it sounded fun.. But
trust me, after few hours in the bus, once it started its engine, you know
how this is really gonna go down…..
So here I am on Sunday morning, had few new meet and greet with the rest of
the crew, helped loadin the bus with essentials things we needs for the
trip, few cases of corona and few bourbon mixes and yes, a couple bottle of
vodka should set us straight for this. At least till we get to our first
stop.
Bus is pumpin, everyone in their Sunday best.. ooh, one thing.. we finally
get more females in the bus, swear I thot I was the only one, so relieved,
at least I could borrow a bra when I need one, it gets really chilly over
here.. Dood there are waaay too many alpha males in this bus, So we’re
heading to NewCastle, where we gonna build our tent for the first night..
Bus ride was unbelievable, a lot of beers, few emergency piss stops, 2
engine checks so we have to hide all the naughty evidence away while we
doing this one, good music, really good one, crazy characters and some
quality bullshit conversassy.. I just know, for the next 2 weeks this is
gonna be an unreal experience, I am sooo bloody horny for this trip!! THIS
IS UNREAL!!!
Day 2..
FARK, cant fukin sleep!! Woke up at 2.30am by these noises outside,
apparently someone we know was sleep talking, did not understand a word he
was saying, he was talking some kinda eastern European language, at least to
me. So I had to entertain my self since am not sleeping and everyone else
is.. tried to go outside, but the night was waay to cold for me to have fun,
so why don’t we pop half of a xanie, at least I can go back to sleep, and
that’s always fun too J so I did..
I just have to start my day with Bacon and Egg roll, I don’t know why we
don’t have that in Bali, its not like its so hard to make, all you do just
put bacon on top of fried egg, and slap some bbq sauce on it, that shit is
so the bomb.
Hit the road again, heading Crescent head where Luke usually spends his
summer when he was a kid, and his dad owned a cottage over there. Ha, soooo
good, so we can hit a warm sack tonight, BOOOM.
Hanging with the boys today, checking out few spots so they can surfs the
day out, the weather was so bullshit, feel like we”re in themidle of the
summer, but with a slight of winter breeze, did I say the weather was
bullshit??? Yes it was.
The sun hit the horizon again, time to pack the van with everyone and boards
and hit wherever the bus is parking on Crescent, and all I did is thinking
about the beautiful bed we gonna snuggle in to.. Not so much of a camper are
we???
Luke wrote.
Thank Christ I have my lady friend with me. I have never been in such
freezing conditions before in my life. It’s the middle of July ( winter )
and im camping which is pretty much only a summer sport for me if any. Much
preffer the comfort of a postropedic matteress with 10000000 count sheets, a
couple of big fluffy pillows and a goose down dona any day of the week. So
after koala bearing all night and hearing the painful screams of others who
were less fortunate than me to have a partner I packed down the tent, wrote
our names on the only 2 big sleeping bags in camp and headed to find some
thing to slay on. I might also ad that Australia has been raining for the
last few months so I had been paying special attention to the weather maps
hoping, praying that we may have some sun. Cold nights mean no clouds to
keep the heat in so when we drove out of the camp site there was noting but
blue skys. Hell yer…. So after a pretty crap surf at some back beach at newy
we powered up the coast in our the hire car that Otto pleaded with Shannon
to get so that we could find surf spots that the bus could not get to.
Nailed it he did. Seal rocks was now the destination and we were on a
mission to find a better wave than the last. We found it. Light house beach
had a couple of fun wedges and we milked every second till the moon told us
to go in. Powered up the coast another couple hours and made Crescent head
and had the good fortune of my old boys child hood house still standing on
the hill so there was no camping for us tonight. Said a lil pray asking God
to keep the good times rolling as im having an absolute ball right now.
Day 3
Luke wrote
Woke from the most pleasant slumber feeling a million bucks. Looking out the
window and seeing the sun power down on the streets always makes for a good
start to the day to. So we headed down to the camp site only to find no
camp. The team had payed to much attention to the pub on the corner and not
to the time and had not realised that the camp site shut up shop and missed
the opportunity to set up. Good times can be a curse right….. Any way the
team had to find another and find it thy did. Back beach plummer. Determined
to keep their good times going despite the objections from other campers
they partied all night on top of the bus like some british rave party.
Pretty devoed I was when I realised I missed out on it but I was looking and
feeling way better for it than my colleagues. Fa was like ok im hanging with
the girls for a day as I need to escape from you boys. So we tracked off and
lesft the bus again to find surf and find it we did. The funnest waves so
far by a million miles. Uncrowded, 3 feet, off shore, sunny, white sand and
and and well what more do you want. We had it all. 3 hours later and
exhausted we head back out on the dirt track we came in on and followed the
scent of the bus. Yamba pub is where the smell stoped and where the biggest
night ever began. Holly crap I had no idea how big this one would be or
planned for it. But I guess that’s how they all are right. Shane Herring,
one of my fav surfers when I was 13 was in the most fine form of the night
and won the award for best Jim Morrison impersnation both for his singing
and wild behaviour. When the hour turned 5am I turned into a pumpkin
sprinted back to my room, dove under the sheets and said tomorrow there is
no way im writing a blog……..
Fa wrote..
Bigest smile I had when I open my eyes today, I knew this is gonna be a good
day. Had a really good sleep, and I guess that’s all you need to start the
day, waiiiiit, mine wouldn’t start until I have bacon and egg roll in my
colone. Quick stop at a breaky spot, and I’m golden. I decided to ride in
the bus today, it’s not because the I didn’t have a good time yesterday in
the van, I just wanted to experience different thing, hope in the bus I did.
Bus didn’t go fast, it goes 60km/hour max, it would be the perfect thing to
ride, so I can really enjoy the view.. There was only 7 of us in the bus,
Steve, Dion, Jared, Shane, Tara, Beck and me, such a good amount of crew so
we can get our own lil corner in the bus and sleep whenever we want to. We
made a quick stop at Kempsy, to get a lil stuff from the art shop. Me and
the girls found this lil antique shop and found few sickooo shits in there,
well, I found my outfit for Splendour, that’s for sure.
Bus ride was amazing, me and Tara takes turn to co-pilot-in Dion on this
ride. Not so much doing what a co-pilot should do, but at least I make sure
there is track after track so Di didn’t fall asleep.. So glad I did the bus
ride today, it was a proper 10 out of 10 ride, what else could you ask for
more on a road trip, we got anything in the bus.. Perfect vibe included.
Got to Yamba, our next stop.. and guess what, it’s another hotel room, HA!!
Don’t get me wrong, I love being on a tent and just rough it, but when it
the temprature go down, all I want is warm spot to snooze off, so tent
wouldn’t be it. Checked in to our room, had a hot shower, refreshed, headed
down to the pub, got my self a steak and a bottle of red wine, few of Jack
Daniel dry, few naked sight of Shane Herring, Twister, Heaps of laugh, Got
so waisted at the end of the night, Good times just keep rolling..
YEEEEEUUUUUW…
Day 4.

Sweet jesus im hurting. I got nothing to say right now except my head hurts
and I have to drive a couple of hours to Nimbin. Shito…….. SOS is there a
medic in the house. See ya’s tomoz.
Fa’ wrote
Worst headache ever!!!! Slept for like 3 hrs, just had to wake up, packed,
and leave.. so firkin wounded. Sun is out but my mood is on the ground.. I
guess that’s what happened when you just pumped your brain to overproduced
euphoria the night before, and you just got none left in the morning. So
shit. Anyway, life goes on right???! I am starving to the max but my mouth
refused to eat, another thing why I’m grumpy. Sorry sted, you gotta deal
with a kid today. The skaters are out doing their tricks at the park, so
everyone was just posing by the bus..
Time to leave Yamba and move our asses to Nimban, am actually looking
forward to be there, a bird told me that the place that we’re staying
tonight is gonna be awesome. Well she wasn’t lying, the place were magical,
we stayed in a mushroom cottage, looking so sick. This place def built by
some serious imagination that had to be stimulate by some serious amount of
shroom. Shroom + Architecture = D.O.P.E ass shieeeeet. I mean check out
Barcelona, that city built by Ghaudi that was heavily influenced by the
magic power of shroom. GENIUS. I liiiiiiiike!!!!
Day 5.
Luke wrote.
Good morning Nimbin. Ha thank god yesterday is over. I always feel fresh and
rested when I wake up in a different location than the last especially when
the last place has memories of debortoury…… Nimbin is such a wild spot and
the place where we are staying complements the setting. In nimbin you can
buy weed off the streets and its 99% legal. The police turn a blind eye sort
of thing so you can imagine the people and the culture. Our accommodation
truly confirms we are staying in such a place. We are living in this cool
lil tree house that looks like a mushroom sprouting from a huge tree trunk
that is a 100 years old. The person who built this was for sure on mushrooms
themselves. The photos will show the other accommodation sites. They all are
just as cool. After a big breaky we had to go and find a padock and do a big
team shot with the bus. My friend kai did a hell nude run through the cows
and the whole team was loosing it as his white ass shone as he legged it
though the field. Got us all in a happy mood and inspired a walk in the
paddock to look for mushrooms. We did not find any. Dam it…….. After the
group shot we headed for lennox which is right on the coast and has great
surf. We are staying here tonight then off to Byron in the AM but not before
we have a few beers at the local pub and watch some live beats from the
locals. Here we go again, back on the beers and back into good times…..
Fa wrote
Hey guys, I def had waaay too much fun on this trip, and yes I am a super
lazy person, so what is that mean?? That means I will stop writing from
today on, am gonna let Luke do all the talking. We have some wicked photos,
so do enjoy it!!
Peace!
Day 6.
Luke wrote.
We had to find a wave. I needed a surf badly to clean my head and to get my
body moving as im starting to feel like the tin man out of the wizard of oz.
So after a surf in below average waves, but still feeling a million times
better we packed up and headed to Byron, but not before we found the dope
lil op shop in Lennox. Man I love finding these shopes. Got myself a cool
couple of hats and Fa found me the most awesome green vest. I was like yes I
have stylest. How cool am I hahahahahaha so with my new clobber we drove the
40 min into byron where we in few a massive couple of days, I new it was
going to be a long one when we found our camp site that was directly behind
the main stage of splendor. Oh my god I new there was going to be minimum
sleep to be had even if that’s all I wanted to do I knew I was not going to
be able to get it. The 20 foot speakers that I could see were going to
ensure the loudest noise possible and I new even the vibrations alone would
rattle the tent pegs from the ground. Shit. Welcome to Splendor I said……
After we set up we headed into Byron town to an Insight party at their new
store. Such a cool pop up crib with beers flowing and conversations
happening with local grounds and syd crew combining it was awesome. We hung
for a while then headed down the street as we new Block Party was playing at
a private gig but when we got there the line was so dam long we were kinda
over it. There was a small band busking just out side on the st so we kicked
it on the pavement and payed attention. Holly cow these guys were good. In 5
min we ran to the bottleo and grabbed a 6 pack and were back watching these
guys dancing and drinking on the side of the road with 50 or so other on
lookers. So awesome. The band were also thinking is this for real. Im sure
they thought they were amazing to as they were like rock stars but not on a
stage but out side the NAB atm machines. So dam cool……
Day 7.
Luke wrote.
Shit man. Zero sleep last night. It was freezing and so fucking loud with
all the people getting wild and walking around being as vocal as their lungs
will let them. Bastards. Hahahahahaha I don’t blame em they were having a
hell time but with the crapp sleeping bags and awful mattress we were
destined for an uncomfortable sleep. Ok to prove how bad the sleep was we
went to the movies at 9.30 am to watch Harry Potter. Who goes to the movies
at 9. 30 am unless they have to? After the movies the sun had warmed the
streets and it was time for a nap on the beach with the sea gulls. This was
so awesome. The sun and snooze had energized me and it was time to get into
festival mood. We found a couple of kids at this cool restaurant had a
couple of beers and a feed then made our way back to the fields were the
tents were and where the bands were playing. Every one was in full swing
when we got there and the energy around the event was energetic and it put
every one on a high. The first band was the Specials and we danced our kicks
off. So cool those guys and they have been around for ever so they know how
to make every one have a good time. My favourite band for the day was Block
Party. These guys rocked from start to finish and they were just so dam hot.
I got goose bumps thinking about that set right now. Every one in the crowd
would just look at each other and say are you serious?????? They were going
off and I loved watching every second of the band going nuts. They were my
fav fo sho. After that I was on a high and they were the last band for the
night but the night was far from over. Hahahahahah we went to this place the
tackle shack and it was rocking. A lil after party and they were playing
soul and every one was dancing. I mean every one. I could not find a soul
that was not moving their feet. It was one of those nights where every one
was on fire and they new it so we all took advantage of our situation and
danced our hearts out. Exausted and fatigued we headed back to our tent and
fell into it and tried to sleep a lil more than last night…
.
Day 8.
Luke wrote.
The first half of today I may as well have been wearing fogy glasses cause
my brain was cloudy and if you saw me walking on the street you may have
thought I was on Valium as I was so slow. This pretty much lasted most of
the day as I wore my self out last night jumping around like a maniac and
walking from tent to tent watching the bands. Any way I had a lil slay on a
long board as I could hardly stand up on a shorty. Pushed my girl into a
couple of fun ones as well. So awesome seeing Fa stand up and cruise along.
Such a laid back style and she fully went across the wave, Oh so proud. You
guys are throwing up right now if your reading this so ill skip to the next
beat. Rang one of my boys who was staying in the area and got the green
light for a shower that was desperately needed. Felt a million bucks after a
long hot one. Ready to roll for day 2 of Splendour. Grinspoon MGMT and
Flaming lips were really good and I used all my energy to dance to their
beat. I had nothing left at all once Flaming lips finished but I still went
to Tackle shack for one last grove before the night ended. About 8 sec I
lasted. God it was a good 8 sec though. Good night Splendour
Day 9.
Luke wrote..
Ok so today I was officially fingered. I was fully over the tent now and I
needed a bed ASAP. I was so tired and grumpy when I woke I was so not
pleasant to be around. So we walked into town and along the way we saw the
mass exit of people leaving Byron heading home to their jobs, wives or
divorces……….. Nailed a room at a hostel with the whole crew then went to la
la land for 4 solid hours. Best 4 hour sleep I have had in a long time. Woke
up and scoffed down some Chinese food cause my lady friend needed some rice
BAD. If she does not get a dose of rice in a 4-day window there may be a
small turn to the dark side of the force if you know what I mean. I knew
that sleep coming up was going to be all time. I can’t wait.
